Participating in College sports can help you forge lasting relationships, lead a healthy lifestyle, and have fun whilst studying at Cambridge.

Lucy students can join a range of University sports teams as well as those organised by the College community.

Taking part in sports has many benefits – along with the advantages for physical health, there is much to be gained in terms of vital soft skills, like leadership, teamwork, time management, creativity, and resilience. There are also benefits to an individual's mental health, in terms of stress relief and time spent with friends, but also in the case of outdoor sports of spending time at the spectacular college venues around Cambridge.

Currently, Lucy Cavendish has 13 teams, 8 of these combined with other colleges. The College competes in 12 regular leagues, out of 14, which is one of the higher totals.

  • Lucy Cav has a combined women’s football team with Christ and Churchill. They are top of Division 1. The College also has its own men’s football team.
  • Lucy Cavendish Boat Club. Bumps will return in a few months and we’ll see whether Lucy can retain the Pegasus Cup.
  • Lucy Cav Basketball is in Division 4.
  • Lucians are also active in Hockey, in a combined team with Robinson, Corpus and PeterHouse.
  • Our Mixed Lacrosse team, together with St Edmunds are in Division 3.
  • Lucy Cavendish Mixed Netball team is currently playing in Division 4.
  • The College has two Tennis teams: Team 1 is fourth in Division 4 and Team 2 is in Division 7.
  • In the Rugby League, the combined Churchill, Lucy Cav and Magdalene’s team is in Division 2.

There are also other sports activities you can join at every level of experience and fitness, without participating in leagues. You can join: Lucy-Hughes Badminton Team, Lucy Cavendish College Cricket Club, Lucy Leapers (Climbing club), Lucy Cavendish Powerlifting Club (LCPC) and Lucy Cavendish Croquet Club. We have a gym on site and the state-of-the-art University Sports Centre is just up the road. The College and Student Union also organise free weekly Yoga sessions for students. Students are always welcome to set up their own sports teams and clubs.

If you are an accomplished sportsperson, chosen to represent the University in its top teams or playing at national squad level, we may be able to help you financially with some of the expenses you will incur.

Being involved with college sports teams allows people to meet others outside of the course, household, and year group, expand their support network much further, and build more lasting relationships.
