Our modern, light and airy dining hall opens onto an outdoor terrace with further seating. The reception rooms above the hall are used for talks, smaller dinners and drinks. 

The kitchen is open every weekday lunchtime throughout the year, with the exception of short breaks at Christmas and Easter, with brunch on Saturdays and a traditional roast on Sunday lunchtimes during term.

We serve informal evening suppers four times a week throughout term time and three-course formal dinners once a week, called Formal Hall.  Lunch and informal suppers are cafeteria style while Formal Hall is table service.  Bookings for Formal Hall need to be made in advance.  With very rare exceptions (e.g. Graduation dinners), all Formal Halls are open to bookings from all College members.

Guests are welcome at all meals including Formal Halls (subject to booking as above).

When the kitchen is open for cafeteria-style meals then food can be purchased to take away.  However most College members enjoy dining with friends and colleagues.

There is always a choice of hot food, sandwiches, soup, salads & pudding (healthy choices available), including options for vegetarians and vegans. We send out a menu in advance every week and our chef caters for a wide variety of dietary requirements.

Nautilus Cafe

Our cafe is open 08:00 - 12:00 Monday to Friday in the Student Common Room throughout term-time. We have a delicious selection of pastries, hot items (e.g. bacon rolls and savoury pastries), cereal, porridge, fresh fruit and juice. Sandwiches, wraps, cakes, cookies and other snacks are available to either have in or take away. We have a barista coffee machine for hot drinks and reusable cups for sale in the Porters' Lodge.  (Please see notices for opening times outside of term.)

The Bar is open every Thursday and Friday evening in term time. You can also make hot drinks and buy snacks in the Common Room, open 24-hours, whenever you like.

Costs

Meals are significantly subsidised by the College and costs are kept as low as possible.

All Cambridge colleges make some form of advance meal charge to their students, in order to encourage students to eat together on site. This, in part, is what helps to create a strong college community.  At Lucy Cavendish we do not have a “standing charge” but instead ask students to pre-purchase a “minimum meal charge” (MMC) credit of £141 per term, which you can spend on lunches, suppers, Formal Halls or takeaways.  You can also pay for your guests out of your MMC, or they can pay for themselves in cash (at a slightly higher rate than College members).
