Freedom of Information Act 2000

The Freedom of Information Act came into force at the beginning of 2005. It deals with access to information held by public authorities, these include higher and further education institutions.

The Act provides individuals or organisations with the right to request information held by a public authority. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has published a Charter for Responsible Freedom of Information Requests.

Information must also be published through the public authority's publication scheme, the purposes of which are to ensure that a significant amount of information is regularly made available, and to allow quick and easy access to material without the need for individuals to make a formal written request. The publication scheme must be approved by the ICO, and is a commitment by a public authority to make certain information available.

Lucy Cavendish College owns a subsidiary company, Lucy Cavendish Trading Limited.
