Lucy alumna and Postgrad Ruby Pillai has started the prestigious start-up accelerator programme established by Cambridge Judge Business School

The purpose of the accelerator programme is to enable and nurture venture creation from Cambridge University. Accelerate Cambridge offers a structured approach of three-month programmes that combine entrepreneurship training, regular coaching and mentoring, as well as access to a shared workspace.

Ruby’s start-up, iWarranty, is developing a cloud-based solution to eliminate existing paper-based warranties and manual claim processes. The focus of iWarranty's innovation is in the application of existing and expanding technological development in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to create process efficiencies for manufacturers accessible, digital and eco-friendly warranties. iWarranty offers consumers convenience and peace of mind when it counts the most, and its free mobile app captures receipts, registers products, summarises key warranty terms and allows consumers to make and manage a claim from anywhere and at anytime.

To help facilitate the shift to a circular economy, iWarranty's vision is to create a sustainable warranty ecosystem that benefits consumers, manufacturers and our planet. Research shows that in the UK alone consumers waste £423 million per annum on replacing items rather than making a claim under their warranties. Using the iWarranty app, consumers will have easy and quick access to their warranties, enabling them to make a responsible choice to extend the life of their repairable goods.

Ruby, alumna and a Postgraduate student, Mst Entrepreneurship, comments:

“I love Lucy! I am privileged to be part of such a supportive community.  iWarranty emerged as a start-up in Lucy’s Common Room, where I was chatting with some friends about missing out on a warranty claim and having to replace a product. During that conversation, it became clear that many shared my experience and frustration with paper-based warranties and highly manual claim processes … and so … iWarranty was born!

Lucy has been with iWarranty through thick and thin.. every step, with various supports. I am looking forward to contributing back to my beloved college!”
