Dr Ann Limb CBE DL, a Fellow-Commoner of Lucy Cavendish College, has been named on the Northern Power Women 2019 Power List today. The list celebrates Ann as an inspiring role model and agent of change, rooted in the North of England.

Northern Power Women (NPW) is a campaign to accelerate gender diversity from the North of England. It aims to transform organisations’ culture by showcasing role models, such as those on the 2019 Power List. It serves as a way of engaging individuals and their organisations, and promoting their achievements as campaign champions and advocates. The Power List, on which Ann is honoured, is part of a series of NPW awards; these celebrate women and men working for gender balance across the Northern Powerhouse.

As well as a Fellow-Commoner of the College, Anne is Chair of the London Stanstead Cambridge Consortium. She set up and chaired the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership, and is the first woman to Chair the Scout Association UK. Ann also chairs the board of ENTRUST, the Landfill Communities Fund, as well as several major organisations in Milton Keynes. After a 25-year career in further education, she also worked as a government adviser.  In 1998, Ann founded the Helena Kennedy Foundation, which promotes social inclusion in further and higher education by awarding bursaries to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Reflecting her lifelong commitment to education equality, she has been a Fellow-Commoner of Lucy Cavendish since 2000. Her place on the Power List will serve as inspiration, her achievements encouraging others to work for their own.

Ann said:

“I’m delighted to be named on the 2019 Power List, drawn up to highlight the difference women make and to raise awareness for gender equality. I’m a proud Mancunian and Northerner by birth. Although I have lived and worked in the south for the last 30 years, including in Cambridge, my roots and heart lie in Manchester, and I remain a passionate advocate for the North."

Simone Roche MBE, founder of NPW, said:

“I am extremely proud of these role models. They are amazing people doing fantastic work and they deserve every bit of recognition. Without the women on our Future and Power List it would be impossible for us to do what we do across the North. Each person named has played a part in driving forward the NPW agenda and have helped push out the boundaries.”

College President Professor Dame Madeleine Atkins said:

“Congratulations to Ann for receiving this honour, and for all she’s done to deserve it.  She is an outstanding example of our Fellow-Commoners, a role model and an advocate of College values. Fantastic news!”

The NPW Awards Ceremony will take place in Manchester, in March 2019. See the 2019 Power List here.
