Dr Jane Hastie received the award for her outstanding services to the industry.

On Friday the 6th of May, British Equestrian honoured leading equestrian figures for their services to the industry, including Lucy alumna Dr Jane Hastie. British Equestrian is the UK National Governing Body for equestrian sport.

The British Equestrian Medal of Honour is awarded to those recognised as having completed acts of international endeavour in relation to equestrian sport, and for outstanding services to the Federation or its Member Bodies.

Dr Jane Hastie (formerly Nixon - Clinical Veterinary Medicine, 1973) has been a veterinary surgeon for over 40 years with a key interest in young and performance horse development, and has acted in a number of consultant vet roles across the disciplines, including with British Breeders and British Dressage. In her volunteer role as a British Equestrian Board Director, she was key in setting up the High Health Steering Group and is a member of EIDAG. Jane is currently chairman of The Showing Council and The British Horse Foundation. While at Lucy, Jane gained a Half Blue riding for Cambridge University. She is a member of the Anna Bidder Society.

Jane says, “Without Lucy’s foresight exactly 50 years ago when our whole family, Mother, Father, younger brother Peter and myself, all arrived together for interview with the wonderful Dr Marie Lawrence, none of my most enjoyable and satisfying career would have happened, or would I have met my late husband, fellow vet, Stewart Hastie. And to boot, Peter who was not at all sure at that stage how life would pan out, decided to work harder at school, became head boy, was lucky enough to go to Selwyn, became a Rugby Blue, came many times to Lucy for Formal Hall as the food much surpassed Selwyn’s, became Director of Conservation for the National Trust together with an MBE….all due to Marie Lawrence’s encouragement.

And…. 50 years on too, Professor Dame Madeleine Atkins has graciously agreed to be the keynote speaker at a prestigious gathering of the British Horse Foundation, a Charity which I chair, to an audience of prominent UK equestrian stakeholders.

If you are lucky enough to be a Lucy student the world will become your lifelong oyster!”
