Maria talks about her new role and her plans to develop an inclusive and holistic well-being programme

This is a new post, created to support all aspects of welfare in Lucy Cavendish’s rapidly growing, diverse student community.  It is a great role because I can help with individual, specific welfare issues and also more holistically to enhance the well-being of our community as a whole. At the moment, we are one of only a small number of Colleges with a welfare and well-being role like this, so it is especially exciting to help Lucy Cavendish grow our approach.

Maria DiasMy main aim is to help each student enjoy making the most of their time with us and to develop life skills that they continue to use and evolve after College.

The first aspect of my role is to support with individual student welfare issues. I offer guidance to Lucy students with welfare concerns, either directly or via the College staff looking after them.  Essentially - if there is anything that is getting in the way of a student enjoying their studies and they are not sure how to tackle it, I am here to help!

Students and staff can contact me about any welfare issue at any stage via welfare@lucy.cam.ac.uk. As my role is part-time, there may be a small wait for me to reply, but I will work with you to resolve your query as efficiently as possible.

The second part of my role is to develop an inclusive and holistic well-being program for our student community. The goal here is to help students grow their individual wellbeing frameworks and enjoy achieving their goals in a positive, healthy and sustainable way at Lucy and beyond.  The well-being program is also focused on nurturing our community, so we continue to be a happy and supportive College that embraces challenge creatively and successfully together.

I would love to hear from any member of the Lucy community with well-being suggestions (e.g. sharing a hobby you love with the community) or opinions (e.g. what’s working well/isn’t with the well-being program). Please contact wellbeing@lucy.cam.ac.uk. It would be great to hear your feedback!

I have been asked what I love most about our College community so far. For me, it is definitely the warmth, openness and collaborative approach.  I have only been here for a few weeks, but have been made to feel very welcome and valued, which is exactly how I hope to make others feel too!
