- Are you a postdoctoral researcher at Cambridge University and looking for an affiliation with a college?
- Are you passionate about finding solutions to the complex challenges facing us in the 21st century, both within and outside academia?
- Are you looking for a college with the same vision and values?
If so, Lucy may be the College for you!
Lucy Cavendish has a 50-year tradition of being the College that admits exceptionally talented individuals from non-traditional and under-represented backgrounds. In doing so, it seeks particularly those who are committed to ‘making a difference’ or to having ‘a positive impact’ on our societies and addressing the ‘Grand Challenges’ of the 21st century. Our interdisciplinary academic community is engaged in cutting edge, world-class research. It is this research that informs our teaching, lecturing and supervisions and one of the reasons that this is such an exciting place to learn and work.
The College intends to support the careers of ten additional Postdoctoral Research Associates this year.
The College therefore invites applications from all University of Cambridge post-doctoral researchers with excellent academic track records who can demonstrate potential leadership, entrepreneurship, creativity and resourcefulness in addressing the challenges of the 21st Century, either within or outside of their academic career to date. We are also looking for individuals who are keen to contribute to the College and so a track-record of being involved in, for example, clubs and societies or other community activities would strengthen your application.
What Lucy offers you:

Don’t take it from us!
Eva Hellman: I absolutely enjoy being a postdoc at Lucy Cavendish College. Everyone I have met was brilliant, open for ideas and excited to get to know people. There are so many opportunities to learn, to network and to develop ideas or projects. We have research talks across all disciplines, research days, amazing pre-formal talks and a really interactive community within the college. My own postdoc project has significantly profited from the networks I made at Lucy. There is so much support for your own initiative, so this is not just a pre-set and fixed college experience but rather something dynamic that you are invited to help create with your ideas and involvement. Coming from a background of promoting mature female students, Lucy Cavendish College has now opened up for all open-minded individuals, especially from minority backgrounds. Come and join us!
Aishwara Jacob: Being a postdoc at Lucy Cavendish College has been an enriching experience and has provided me with the opportunity to meet and connect with fellow postdocs from different areas in STEM and the arts and humanities. Lucy Cavendish provides a warm and welcoming environment for postdocs to thrive and is a great platform for their voices to be heard as an integral part of the University of Cambridge community. In the past, the college’s interest in addressing significant challenges has been primarily directed toward the support of mature women; their education and career both within and outside academia. In doing so, Lucy Cavendish has historically fostered an excellent network of women scholars keen to make a difference in the global community. However, starting from 2019, Lucy Cavendish has opened its door to all academics in their global 21st Century mission toward achieving a prosperous and sustainable future for all regardless of race, gender or orientation. The college has graciously invited postdoctoral researchers to be part of this exciting endeavour and has provided the essential tools for us to express ourselves. For example, aside from the perks such as access to college resources and subsidized meals, we, the postdoctoral affiliates are strongly encouraged to integrate with college life via joint research seminars, formal dining, symposia and social activities with the students, Fellows and faculty of the College. The College is also deeply supportive of creative endeavours in public outreach arenas and the formation of collaborative networks with outside agencies as well as with other Cambridge University colleges. During the pandemic, the College has continued to support its post-doctoral community and has fostered even further our integration with the rest of the College community including post-grad students and fellows and even alumni, through activities such as our far-reaching seminar series “Lucy in Lockdown” and continuing mentorship programmes. Despite the physical distancing, Lucy Cavendish college continues to draw us closer and is forging ahead with its mission towards creating a strong and united community of academics committed toward facing the challenges of the 21st century. As such the years ahead promise to be very colourful and exciting for the Lucy Cavendish Postdocs and we hope you will join us for the ride!
