The College’s Speed Mentoring events provide opportunities to build up professional networks within Cambridge and beyond.

On Thursday the 5th of May the College hosted representatives of AstraZeneca for a Speed Mentoring event. Attendees, largely graduate students, had the opportunity for 8-minute intensive conversations about their future careers with AstraZeneca staff who came with a wide range of experience across organisations, business functions and geographies. The speed mentoring and presentations from Vincenzo Garzya and Eva Stergiou were followed by drinks and Formal Hall which provided further opportunities for Lucians to learn from our AstraZeneca visitors.

The students really appreciated the event, saying how everyone from AstraZeneca was great to talk to and commented on what they’d learned about reaching out and the importance of networking. A successful evening was enjoyed thanks to the involvement of Caroline Austin and colleagues at AstraZeneca who generously gave their time and expertise.

The Life Sciences Community supports activities like this which provide Lucy Cavendish students with invaluable support in planning for their futures and we’re told how much they are appreciated - feedback from this event included:

“I'd recommend Lucy Careers Experiences to everyone because it's a great way to find out about the opportunities available to us, career options, and learn about the world outside of academia and Cambridge. In addition, we make contacts with a variety of people out in the professional world with varying backgrounds and expertise. It really helps to broaden our perspective!”
