Amelia's post-doctoral research aims to investigate how specific microbial metabolites affect the development of immune cell populations in the gut and the role intestinal epithelial cells play in modulating this interactions. Her work will directly contribute to our understanding of the complex mechanisms of intestinal microbes in inducing host mucosal immunity and may lead to novel strategies for prevention and treatment of enteric diseases. Her long-term goal is to develop new approaches to combat inflammatory diseases of the gut such as inflammatory bowel disease and Crohn’s disease.

Amelia is at the Department of Medicine.
