Academic Enrichment Programme: Supporting students to achieve their full potential
The College's flagship virtual outreach programme will start again in November, supporting over 700 high-achieving state school students.
The Academic Attainment Programme is the College's flagship outreach programme, supporting 700 high-achieving UK state school students to realise their full potential through a 12-month programme of subject-specific support tailored to their stage in the curriculum.
Students participate in regular subject-specific enrichment classes with the aim of strengthening students' skills and knowledge and raising attainment and confidence in their current studies. Monthly Peer Discussion Groups also offer students the opportunity to continuously develop their oracy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. A range of additional subject taster sessions, alongside the completion of a Project, allow students to explore their subject interests further and think more seriously about possible degree choices. Throughout, students receive advice from our Admissions Team on every stage of the university application process.
Following last year's Programme, 90% of participants feel that the AEP has provided them with the resources and support to achieve the grades they want to at A-Level (Scottish Highers/IB), and 98% of participants feel confident that they now know how to make a competitive application to Cambridge and other top universities.
Through interactive lectures and engaging discussions, this Taster Day on 27 October 2023 will explore various geographical concepts and phenomena that shape our planet. We aim to ignite your passion for Geography, inspire you to consider studying it at A-Level/Scottish Higher and university, and provide advice and guidance for applying to top universities and your next steps
During the taster lectures and discussions, you will have the opportunity to delve into fascinating topics across human and physical Geography and experience university-style teaching. The panel discussion will allow you to learn more about what it is like studying Geography at university, while highlighting the wide variety of fulfilling career paths available to Geography graduates - from international development to geospatial analysis - and providing guidance on how to pursue them.
Whether you want to extend your GCSE/National 5 Geography studies, are considering applying for Geography or Social Sciences at university, or simply want to explore the world through a different lens, this Taster Day will provide valuable insights and inspiration.
