Immerse yourself in the rich traditions of Inner Mongolia (northern China) with this recital that showcases the heroic epics, narrative folk songs, and soul-stirring melodies of the Horchin Mongols.
A native folk artist of the Horchins, Jingang will present four distinctive local oral traditions of storytelling accompanied by the two- or four-stringed Mongoilan fiddle (choor): demonic tales of the many-headed monster Mangus (mangsin üliger), improvised verses (holboo), heroic tales (choorin üliger), and tales with song (üligert duu). The recital offers a rare opportunity to engage with Inner Mongolia’s rich cultural heritage, blending myth, history, and living cultural heritage through vocal artistry and instrumental mastery.
Jingang’s performance will be introduced by Dr. Carole Pegg—a renowned anthropologist of Mongolian music and alumna of Lucy Cavendish—with English transliterations and translations provided for deeper cultural engagement.
