Thinking about Cambridge?

As the most diverse College in Cambridge, Lucy Cavendish College is dedicated to supporting students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds to apply to Cambridge and to achieve their full potential. Our exciting and extensive outreach programme aims to provide prospective applicants and their teachers/advisors with transparent and comprehensive information and advice about applying to Cambridge, and to raise attainment among high-achieving students from backgrounds that are disadvantaged or underrepresented at Cambridge.

Further information about events and opportunities for prospective applicants and their teachers/advisors to get involved with can be found below, and supplementary resources can be found on our prospective applicants webpage

The Summer Preparation Programme is the first stage of the Academic Attainment Programme, taking place across 4 weeks in the summer holidays between Year 11 (S4 - Scotland, Y12 - N.I.) and Year 12 (S5 - Scotland, Y13 - N.I.).

The programme is designed to bridge the gap between GCSE (National 5/equivalent) study to A-Levels (IB/Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers/equivalent) by providing students with a month-long programme of academic enrichment tailored to their stage of the curriculum. The programme will consist of study skills workshops on a range of important themes such as time management and essay writing, university readiness sessions to support students as they plan their next steps to top Universities like Cambridge, and substantive knowledge sessions, designed to supplement students' foundational academic knowledge so that they can hit the ground running when they start their A-Levels (IB/Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers/equivalent).

Applications for the Summer Preparation Programme are now open - find out more and apply using the link below.

The Lucy Cavendish College Academic Attainment Programme provides high-achieving Year 12 (S5 - Scotland, Y13 - N.I.) students with 10 months of comprehensive supplementary academic support tailored to their stage in the curriculum, giving them the best chance of achieving their full potential. Students will participate in regular subject-specific enrichment classes in each of their core A-Level (Scottish Higher/IB) subjects, with the aim of strengthening their subject knowledge and building confidence in their current studies. In addition to these, students will attend monthly discussion groups to develop their oracy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. A range of subject taster sessions, alongside the completion of a Project, will allow students to explore their subject interests further and think more seriously about possible degree choices. Throughout, students will also receive advice from our Admissions Team on every stage of the application process so that they can make their university applications as competitive as possible.
