Who we are
Formerly a mature College for women, our Alumnae and Honorary Fellows include an Oscar Winning actor, award winning writers, politicians, the first female director of MI5 and an Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. We will admit male and female students from October 2021 and aim for a roughly equal balance across the genders in our new cohort of students.
Our Postgrad community is well established – we currently have over 400 Postgrad students studying full- and part-time taught masters and research degrees in the sciences and arts, from over 60 countries across the world.
We have strong links with the Judge Business School and admit students for the MBA, EMBA, and part-time M.Sts in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation. We also admit part-time students linked to the University’s Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) in Creative Writing, and Writing for Performance.
Our students are members of University sporting teams, orchestras and choral groups, societies, cultural and international groups, and volunteer within the University and local community. Diversity, widening participation and social change are at the heart of everything we do, and we seek to make a positive change to the world in which we live.
How we support you
We have a number of studentships and awards which new Postgrads are considered for automatically as part of their membership of Lucy Cavendish, with priority given to students who make Lucy Cavendish their first choice. We forge relationships with external organisations who are able to offer funding, and our alumnae are keen to support our students through donations and bequests. We also have a number of students who are supported by the Cambridge Trusts and other University awards.
We run a programme of sessions throughout the year specifically for Postgrads: hear from our Dr Annette Mahon, Assistant Senior Tutor (Postgrads) about our academic and study skills programme
We also focus on the opportunities available to you after Cambridge: our Careers programme experts talk about how Lucy Cavendish supports our Postgrads below
Bruno Cotta
And all Postgrads have a dedicated College Tutor: a source of support for concerns about non-academic issues.
Accommodation
We aim to accommodate all Postgrads whose place is confirmed before the end of August, in dedicated Postgrad accommodation. We have a wide range of accommodation available, from studio flats and family accommodation, to rooms in shared student houses in key locations across the city.
Some of our most popular accommodation are our modern, spacious blocks at 100 Histon Road, which have large student common rooms and include apartments for couples and families. Mount Pleasant House is also popular with our Postgrads and has ensuite rooms, large kitchens, and self-contained studios.

A day in the life of a Lucy student
Hear all about life at Lucy from current student Signe!
Signe comes from Denmark and is about to go into her second year as an undergrad studying Psychological and Behavioural Sciences. Her favourite thing about Lucy Cavendish is the wonderful garden (especially in sunshine) and meeting new Lucians at Elevensies at the library

Careers Support
We understand that it is not only getting a great degree that is important, but what life holds after University too. Our bespoke careers initiative "Optimise your future" is run in close collaboration with the excellent University Careers Service (whose Director is one of our Fellows!), and offers students the chance to explore their future after graduation. The initiative includes access to a Careers Adviser in College, opportunities to engage with our alumni and joint careers events with other Colleges.
