Who we are

The Lucy Cavendish Postgrad community is well established – we have just under 700 Postgrad students studying full-time and part-time masters and research degrees in the sciences and arts, from nearly 70 countries across the world.

Our students are members of University sporting teams, orchestras and choral groups, societies, cultural and international groups, and volunteer within the University and local community.  Diversity, widening participation and social change are at the heart of everything we do, and we seek to make a positive change to the world in which we live.

The College has a relaxed, modern campus, located just outside the centre of the city, within an easy walk or cycle ride of all faculties and amenities, with an extensive library, gym, dining hall, and a modern, spacious café and green areas.  In common with other Colleges across Cambridge, our Postgrad accommodation is nearby, rather than on, campus.

We have strong links with the Judge Business School and admit students for the MBA, EMBA, and part-time M.Sts in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation. We also admit part-time students linked to the University’s Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) in Creative Writing, and Writing for Performance.

Lucy Cavendish is firmly committed to providing an outstanding environment in which to undertake Postgrad study and research at Cambridge.  We offer academic and study skills sessions specifically for Postgrads throughout the year, and begin to focus on careers support and advice even before you arrive in Cambridge.

The College has a team of College Tutors and Student Office staff who support the welfare of our Postgrad students throughout their degree, which enables our students to concentrate on their study and research and achieve excellent results.

Our Alumnae and Honorary Fellows include an Oscar Winning actor, award winning writers, politicians, the first female director of MI5 and an Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.

How we support you

New Postgrads are considered automatically, as part of their membership of Lucy Cavendish, for Lucy Cavendish Studentships and Awards, with some awards specifically for applicants who make Lucy Cavendish their first choice College.  We forge relationships with University departments and external organisations who are able to offer funding, and our alumnae are keen to support our students through donations and bequests.  We also have a number of students who are supported by the Cambridge Trusts and other University awards.

We run a programme of sessions throughout the year specifically for Postgrads, such as academic and study skills programmes, and a focus on careers.
