Lorna Williamson is a Trustee and Chair of Grants Committee at Barts Charity.
For nearly 20 years, she was Reader and Honorary Consultant in Transfusion Medicine at the University of Cambridge, undertaking clinical research and trials. Lorna was NHS Blood and Transplant’s Medical and Research Director from 2007-2016. Following her retirement from the NHS, she has worked on communicating science to the public, including being Director of Publishing and Engagement at the Royal College of Pathologists. She is passionate about female education, including support for CamFed, and women in medicine and science (and the fortunes of the Scottish rugby teams, both female and male). She also was Non-Executive member of the Human Tissue Authority.
Lorna has advised on national and international transfusion policy and safety in multiple different roles and has published over 130 scientific papers, book chapters, reviews and reports. In 2017, she was awarded an OBE for her work for in the advancement of blood, stem cell and tissue donation for transplantation.
Lorna was a Governing Body Fellow at Lucy from 1997-2011.
