Stuart is a historian specialising in the history of early modern popular politics and religion, and holds a PhD in Medieval and Early Modern Studies from the University of Kent. His doctoral research focused on the impact of the early Reformation on urban politics, and he has subsequently researched a range of topics surrounding provincial political culture during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. 

Stuart is an enthusiastic teacher, and is currently a Teaching Assistant on the Cambridge Foundation Year Programme and will be Director of Studies for the Foundation Year at Lucy Cavendish. Before coming to Lucy, he taught History in a range of settings, including the University of Kent, University of East Anglia, and Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge.

Alongside teaching and research, Stuart is passionate about widening access to Higher Education and has worked in various roles in Cambridge and elsewhere that have looked to break down systemic barriers to universities.
