Professor Heather Eggins is Visiting Professor at the Institute for Education Policy Research, Staffordshire University and Visiting Professor at the University of Sussex. She was a Fulbright New Century Scholar 2005/2006 working on the topic of ‘Higher Education in the 21st Century: Global Challenge and National Response’. Her most recent edited book is ‘Drivers and Barriers to Achieving Quality in Higher Education’ (Sense 2014). She has also served as a Consultant to UNESCO and served as Director of SRHE, a learned society which is an NGO of UNESCO. Her research interests lie generally in the area of policy and strategy in Higher Education, with a particular interest in access issues, and the impact of globalisation on the higher education system. Heather is a member of CHER, an international Consortium of HE Researchers, who hold an annual conference which is hosted or organised on their behalf. In 2016 Heather asked if LCC could be the organiser in the knowledge that the conference regularly makes a surplus for the organising institution. It was a risk as we had no experience and some members of Council did not want to proceed but Lesley recommended taking a punt and, true to her word, the College made a surplus of £15.5k after settling all the costs.
