On Friday 23 May, the College community gathered to celebrate the achievements of students involved in this year's Futures Hub programmes.
The event brought together participants from the Lucy Enterprise Challenge, the Future Global Leaders programme and the winner of the Careers Portal, providing an opportunity to acknowledge their hard work.
The evening commenced with pre-dinner drinks, allowing students to reconnect with their mentors and supporters to share updates on their entrepreneurial ventures and leadership development plans. Despite the demands of the examination period and dissertation writing, a sense of optimism filled the room as attendees focused on their future paths with excitement.
A highlight of the evening was the opportunity to hear firsthand accounts from two programme participants. Final year undergraduate Fatima Yusuf reflected on her experience of the Lucy Enterprise Challenge, stating it was "one of the most intense, and unexpectedly rewarding, experiences" of her time at College, adding, “I genuinely knew nothing about business. But joining the Lucy Enterprise competition changed that and showed me that I am capable of doing this”.
Master’s student Charlie Walker offered a strong endorsement of the Future Global Leaders programme, declaring, "There’s probably nothing else in Cambridge that I’d recommend more." Elaborating on his experience, Charlie noted, “the most valuable part of the programme hasn’t been any one talk, or tour or title. It’s been the people – spending time with students from very different backgrounds but with a shared drive to tackle big problems. It’s about being encouraged to think boldly and to be entrepreneurial – not necessarily in the traditional sense, but in creating value for both people and the planet.” This sentiment of the importance of personal connection, central to the Futures Hub and Lucy Cavendish College ethos, resonated with many attendees.
Hyeseon Do, this year’s winner of the Careers Portal, expressed her enthusiasm for the diverse careers-related events and initiatives offered by the College and shared her intention to contribute to the programmes as an alumna.
These inspiring testimonials underscore the significant impact of the Futures Hub, which this year has positively engaged nearly 200 students.
The College gratefully acknowledges the generous support that makes these programmes possible.
