Liam was honoured for his exceptional dedication and innovative approach to teaching as one of fourteen recipients of the annual prize.

Lucy Cavendish College is delighted to congratulate Dr Liam Saddington on receiving a Pilkington Prize, awarded annually to recognise excellence in teaching across the University of Cambridge.

Dr Saddington, College Fellow and member of the Department of Geography, was one of fourteen outstanding staff honoured this year. As Training and Skills Director for the Geography Tripos, he has played a key role in developing and delivering innovative approaches to student learning.

His contributions include launching a museum field trip for first-year students, running a ‘COP Cambridge’ climate change simulation for second years, and introducing a new ‘research carousel’ to support dissertation preparation. The latter comprises dedicated methods sessions from staff across the teaching programme, all run over three consecutive days.

Liam is also one of our most popular lecturers. He has actively sought out opportunities to deliver teaching and develop his pedagogy, leading to his nomination for a Student-Led Teaching Award in 2023. He has sustained and led all of this while being an absolutely model colleague, an excellent researcher (focused on pedagogy and climate change), and an ardent and active leader of widening participation and schools outreach.

Liam says, "I was truly delighted and humbled to win a Pilkington Prize this year. I am so fortunate to have such wonderful, engaged and inspiring students at Lucy and the wider University who I get to work with every day"

This well-deserved recognition highlights Dr Saddington’s commitment to creative and inclusive teaching, and his positive impact on students within both the Department and the College.
