Sandy Town Council welcomed Joanna Hewitt as new Mayor at the end of May.

At the Annual Meeting of Sandy Town Council on Monday 22nd May 2023, Councillor Joanna Hewitt was elected to serve as Mayor of Sandy Town Council.

Joanna Hewitt was handed the mayoral chain from Cllr Martin Pettitt who had been in the role for two years.

As Town Mayor, Joanna will have two roles: Chairman of the Town Council and Civic Ambassador for the town.

She says, “I am honoured to have been appointed Mayor of Sandy and thank the Council for their confidence in me. I look forward to working with my fellow councillors, community groups and residents across Sandy, for the benefit of the town.”

Joanna is Non-Executive Director and Chair of Youth Inspired, a community organisation that works to support young people with learning difficulties develop and mature towards an independent adult life. She has a background in Wealth Management, Philanthropy Advice and Charity Management.

Joanna has been a Fellow-Commoner of Lucy Cavendish College since 2007.
