The event, held at Lucy Cavendish College, helped like-minded individuals to team up and collaborate on new ventures.

On the 16th of March, Creator Fund, CUE, CUTEC, and Lucy Cavendish Enterprise Society collaborated to organise a founders matching event for the Cambridge entrepreneurial ecosystem. For a third year in a row, the event drew several participants, who were seeking like-minded individuals to team up with and start a new venture.

Attendees were given the opportunity to pitch their ideas to the audience in search of co-founders and potential funding. The pitches ranged from AI, materials and education to healthcare solutions, each presenting a unique opportunity for someone to get involved and make a difference. Some attendees had already started their own companies and were looking to make their first hires, while others were just beginning their entrepreneurial journey. Attendees networked with one another, exchanging ideas and goals. The event was a perfect opportunity for those who had been struggling to find the right co-founder or first hires to take their idea to the next level. A highlight was the calibre of talent always found in the Cambridge environment, including highly skilled PhDs, MBAs and undergraduates or even recent and not-so-recent graduates.

Person presenting at Cambridge Founbders Matchmaking event

The collaboration between the early-stage VC fund - Creator Fund, and the Cambridge University societies CUE, CUTEC, and Lucy Cavendish Enterprise all played a crucial role in bringing this event to life. Attendees were presented with the breadth of resources and support they can offer to budding entrepreneurs, from small grants from business competitions to larger equity funding. The event was a great example of how collaboration can impact the entrepreneurial ecosystem and expose students to entrepreneurial environments from an early stage.

Speaking about the event, Dr. Yaw Ansong Snr, founder and president of the Lucy Enterprise Society said: "Lucy Cavendish College is very quickly establishing itself as a beacon of entrepreneurship in and around Cambridge. The Enterprise Society wholeheartedly welcomes collaborative efforts like these as they help shape the entrepreneurial landscape in Cambridge."

Particpants chatting at the event

Following the founders matchmaking event last year, an Australian founder pursuing his master’s degree at the University of Cambridge received his first investment to start Marqo - an open-source tensor search engine that integrates with your applications, websites and workflows. We are very excited to see the success stories which will follow the attendees this year!
