Arın Dilligil Bayraktaroğlu adds to her previously published books and scientific articles on Turkish language and culture within the scope of sociolinguistics.
Arin has been a Senior Associate of Lucy Cavendish College since 1986, and a lecturer in Turkish Language and Literature for many years. She has books and scientific articles published internationally on Turkish language and culture within the scope of sociolinguistics.
Arın Bayraktaroğlu is currently a board member of the British Association for Turkish Area Studies and was elected as a senior member (Fellow) to the Chartered Institute of Linguists in 2003. In 2019, Arin received the "Achievement Award" by the Federation of Turkish Associations of England.
In the last three years, Arin has produced three books.
The first book, started during the Covid 19 lock-down, is the story of Frederic Chopin`s life, progressing alongside his 101 selected letters. This work is currently under consideration for publication.
The next two books are historical novels. One was published in 2022 and is entitled, Nüzhet, echoing the name of the main character who happens to be the first wife of Nazım Hikmet, one of the most famous poets of the country. It recounts Nüzhet`s amazing life as an educated young woman, a single-mother, and a teacher of French at a secondary school, all very commendable achievements in the early years of a secular republic.
The second novel, Muhteşem Kuzenler (The Magnificent Cousins), was published in September 2023. It tells the story of five individuals from a large family of Istanbul, gaining international recognition and reputation amidst the post-war drama, political developments and social changes that the world has experienced from 1920s onwards. In the course of this interesting voyage the reader is introduced to many well-known personalities such as Helmuth James Graf von Moltke, Princess Faiza of Egypt, Jean Paul Sartre and Anthony Schaffer, each one having a connection with one or other of the book`s heroes.
The facts which Arın has collected from books, newspaper articles, the internet and face-to-face interviews are inserted into an imaginary world of fiction to make the whole an interesting read. Its English version is currently being edited for publication in the UK.
