Rowan is a Palaeobiologist, British Antarctic Survey (BAS). She is an interdisciplinary scientist, with a fMSci in Geoscience, a postgraduate masters degree in Biological Science and a PhD in Palaeontology.

As a palaeobiologist with an interdisciplinary academic record (MSci Geoscience, MSc Biology, PhD Palaeobiology) her research interests include:

i. What were the effects of geologically rapid environmental events, such as mass extinctions, on evolution and ecology in the Southern Hemisphere?

ii. How did modern Antarctic benthic ecology evolve?

iii. How did past climate change affect Antarctic biodiversity and ecology, and what are the implications for biodiversity today?
